Arline Mitchell of Milton-Freewater passed away on September 30, 2013 at the Walla Walla General Hospital at the age of 81years. There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at 53785 W Crockett Rd Space 20 in Milton-Freewater from noon to 4:00 pm sharing the things Arline loved. Those who wish may make memorial contributions in memory of Arline Mitchell to a charity of choice in care the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main, Milton-Freewater, Oregon. Arline Mitchell was born August 11, 1932 in Bellingham, Washington to Theodore Loney and Gwendolyn Loney Steiner. According to her birth certificate she was a coal miner’s daughter. She Lived in Ferndale, Washington until age 9 when the family moved to Redmond, Oregon.

She married Nelson Mitchell in 1950 and lived in Central Oregon for several years. Besides being a homemaker she worked at numerous occupations including; waitress, managing a potato sorting crew, cooking on a dry farm and a logging camp. She also worked as a checker and a meat wrapper in a super market for 5 years. She owned and operated a franchise for the Oregonian Publishing Co. of Portland, Oregon. Her distribution area covered Athena, Weston, Milton-Freewater, College Place and Walla Walla. A car accident forced her to sell her franchise. The years following she worked as a supervisor in the food processing industry working in several plants (Rogers, Tom Thumb, American Fine Foods, Fridays, and Chiquita) in the local area. She retired in 1999.

Her hobbies included golf, gambling, collecting clocks, fishing, and reading. Arline was known for baking many items for fundraisers and staff at the Penitentiary as well as for family and friends. She enjoyed long hours of chatting and drinking coffee with the ladies of the Villadom Court (a.k.a. The Liars Club). She also enjoyed the company of her dog “Star”.

Survivors include two daughters; Gail (Chuck) and Jackie, one son; Ken (Carla); stepdaughter-in-law, Shirley; three stepdaughters; Shirleen, Ruby, and Lenore; one sister; Margery and one brother; James. Additionally surviving are numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Her parents, stepfather (Al), husband and stepson, Blaine all preceded her in death.
